ALVIN LEE, singer, songwriter, guitarist extraordinaire and leader of the legendary English rock band Ten Years After, has a distinguished solo career. One of you asked for some of his albums, and now we are presenting here “Let It Rock [AirMail Archive Japan miniLP digitally remastered +2]“, Lee’s solo LP from 1978.
While there’s a remastered European release of “Let It Rock”, this out of print Japanese 24-bit digital remastering by AirMail Archive Records is the one to get.

“Let It Rock” is a curious album, mostly for its title, from which you would expect a screaming hard rock or blues rock collection of songs. Instead, you get a very melodic set of laid back tunes with a couple of rockers for good effect.
As proof of its melow essence, the album opens with “Chemicals, Chemistry, Mystery and More,” a bluesy atmospheric semi-ballad.

However, follower “Love the Way You Rock Me” rocks with Lee’s unmistakable riffs and clean vocals which made him famous. “Images Shifting” has some early Eagles on it, and strangely, a guitar work reminiscent of David Gilmour.

Alvin blues roots appear in “Through With Your Lovin'” for a bar-room rocker, then “Time To Meditate” is the proper ballad on the LP with its misty melody and a killer guitar solo.

This Japanese remastered reissue includes 2 bonus tracks; “Snake Jam” and “Break Jam”, which as titles suggest, both feature Lee jammin’ with his skilled musicians and are a must for Alvin fans of his guitar playing. Both are professionally recorded and produced tracks (not demos).
Speaking about production, “Let It Rock” is excellent in this matter, crisp and pristine, and this remastering job enhance all its virtues.
