TANK (featuring David Readman) – Re-Ignition (2019)
Now with renowned vocalist David Readman as frontman, TANK will be releasing a new album titled “Re-Ignition” on April 26, 2019. The album consists of re-recorded tracks from previous records.
“Re-Ignition” is a tribute to the early days of the band and features 11 classic Tank songs chosen from the first 4 albums which were originally released in the early ’80s: Filth Hounds of Hades, Power of the Hunter, This Means War, and Honour and Blood!
Led by guitarists Mick Tucker and Cliff Evans, Tank are joined on this album by special guests Dani Filth (of Cradle Of Filth) and Tom Angelripper (of Sodom).
Tank first albums are considered cult NWOBHM staples now, yet Tucker and Evans, whose guitars defined the band’s sound for 35 years, seem determined to update these classic cuts 2019. As a result, there’s no need for an aficionado zeal when such pieces as the hymnal “Just Like Something From Hell” effortlessly assert their vitality: the listener can appreciate the songs without a glance at the original versions.
From the polished riff and catchy chorus of “Walking Barefoot Over Glass” through the sweet anger of “This Means War” on to “The War Drags Ever On” – a speed epic which fails to deliver its message but drags, indeed, the group are on fire.
Bringing a lot of vigor to the table, ex Pink Cream 69 / Voodoo Circle singer David Readman is able to balance danger and soulful edge on “W.M.L.A.” or “He Fell In Love With A (Stormtrooper)” that have danced through decades with much grace.
Readman is the key for these songs work in amore melodic delivery, one of the reasons “Re-Ignition” works so well.
The groovy piece “Honour And Blood” is given an adrenaline shot with every lick and vocal phrase, whereas “Blood, Guts And Beer” rages as an aural analog of a pub brawl – all in the name of pure energy.
Which is why “Echoes Of A Distant Battle” becomes more than a reminiscence about former glory – it’s a statement of the veterans’ relevance.
“Re-Ignition” is good, old-fashioned traditional metal / hard rock updated to current times in terms of sound, but you know, each of these songs exudes ’80s from every pore.
