Don’t Be Scared By These Hands” is the out of print and rare 2nd solo album from the legendary The Tubes front man FEE WAYBILL, produced by Richard Marx, and partially recorded in Sweden by Tommy Denander. Among the players we find Steve Lukather (not only on guitar but also keyboards), Bruce Gaitsch (King Of Hearts, Richard Marx), Tommy Denander, Randy Jackson and Johnathan Moffett, among others.
The album only was released in Scandinavia, and while there was a USA print the year after it was in limited quantities.

After many years not releasing a solo album, Waybill and longtime friend Richard Marx started to work on “Don’t Be Scared By These Hands” in the mid-Nineties. It was hard times for this type of melodic lite AOR musical style, but a Swedish label resulted interested and the production / recording was arranged between Sweden / L.A.

And indeed the L.A. Session crew so famed in the ’80s started to work again with this album.
Fee Waybill’s unique vocal style got backed up by some seriously high quality musicians including guitar legend Steve Lukather from Toto, session ace Bruce Gaitsch, Swedish guitar maestro Tommy Denander, Randy Jackson on bass, Jonathan Moffet on drums, and Richard Marx who produced the album in addition to doing backing vocals, plus other renowned session guys.

Most of these cats also had a hand in co-writing the material presented here. Fee Waybill is known for his quirky lyrics that often tell a cynical story and this album has plenty of his style to keep you entertained.
Highlights include the upbeat opener “I Know You”, the groovy guitar riffs of “Tall Dark & Harmless”, the smooth vocal melodies of “Fools Cry”, the melodic power ballad “Surprise Yourself”, and the killer groove of “What’s Wrong With That” which also featured on the Richard Marx album Flesh And Bone.

“Don’t Be Scared By These Hands” is a delicious set of tunes that showcases Waybill’s colorful vocals and of course the talents of some of the best musicians from the L.A. session music scene.
Highly recommended to fans of quality melodic rock / lite AOR and some Hi-Tech focusing on good songwriting and terrific musical performances.
