SHADOW & THE THRILL – Sugarbowl (2020) *EXCLUSIVE*

We’re presenting in exclusive at 0dayrox “Sugarbowl“, the upcoming debut album by SHADOW & THE THRILL. Shadow & The Thrill is the product of the talents of vocalist / guitarist Tony Cardenas-Montana, best known for his extensive tenure in Great White and it’s subsequent variation, Jack Russell’s Great White, and drummer / keyboardist Brentt Arcement, a renowned musician and producer having worked with the likes of Fiona Apple, BulletBoys, etc.
What we have here is a terrific collection of songs with a bluesy, rocking foundation in the style of Badlands, Night Ranger-Gary Moon era, Gary Moore, Tesla, and of course Great White.
Production is fantastic, crisp, and all these songs timeless and melodic.

Just to tip some examples, “Just Enough” takes a rolling Blues Rock grooving riff and pairs it with soaring vocal harmonies and a super charged guitar solo. It’s an extraordinary time in the world, so it’s the right time for this extraordinary new act to enter our lives.

Title track “Sugarbowl” is one of my favorites, a bluesy midtempo melodic rocker with the feel of Night Ranger’s album Feeding Off The Mojo, atmospheric, meaty, where Cardenas-Montana’s pristine voice shines.

“Misery” is a gargantuan-sounding slice of soulfully sinuous groove-based blues rock, at places resembling Badlands. There’s a kicking energy to “Shake the Devil”, and we have a wild cover of Tommy Bolin’s “The Grind,” greatly arranged and executed.
We have as well an incredible rendition of Gnarls Barkley’s, “Crazy”, done in heavy-blues ballad mode. This version brings to mind Gary Moore for sure.

I’m sold. Shadow & The Thrill are the real deal, authentic, timeless bluesy based with a melodic, slight hard rock edge from the soul. Both musicians deliver terrific performances, and production is top notch.
