THE TRIPLETS (feat Jeff Porcaro, Michael Landau & more) – Thicker Than Water [reissue]
As requested, here’s the reissue (better sound) of “…Thicker Than Water“, the 1991 album by female fronted act THE TRIPLETS. A consistently melodic pop-rock trio consisting of sisters Diana, Sylvia and Vicky Villegas, The Triplets showed real potential on this CD.
Many of the slick, highly commercial songs on this disc wouldn’t have been out of place on an album by Belinda Carlisle or Patty Smyth (of SCANDAL fame), but what sets The Triplets apart from other bands in this style from of the early 1990s are the Spanish and Latin touches the trio brings to catchy selections.
What elevates this release is the first class session musicians involved: the great Jeff Porcaro doing his magic on most tracks, legendary Mike Baird also on drums, and the unique Michael Landau dropping some exquisite guitar solos.
This is definitely corporate rock, although it has a certain thoughtfulness that keeps it from sounding like the product of a musical assembly line.
Enjoyable on the whole, ”Thicker Than Water” should have done better. But unfortunately, the pop-rock market paid little attention to the talented siblings.
