Requested by many of you some time ago, here’s more from the stupendous “AOR CITY 1000 series” by Sony Music Japan, a campaign featuring a low-priced reissue on classic AOR / AC albums from their back catalog (many of them out of print or hard to find).
To complete the KENNY LOGGINS‘ reissues from these series, here’s his solo debut album “Celebrate Me Home“, which in this case uses the last DSD mastering for optimal results.
The album, Loggins’ first since splitting from Loggins and Messina, represents a slight move away from the acoustically leanings of his previous recordings towards a more polished, Westcoast FM soft rock sound.
This is smooth stuff, filled with leisurely paces, sweet electric guitars courtesy of giants Robben Ford, Lee Ritenour and Dean Parks, electric pianos and easy attitude — so it’s no surprise when you discover this is a co-production by Billy Joel’s chief collaborator Phil Ramone and Bob James.

There is a bit of surprise that this album doesn’t really have any big hits to its credit except the title track – a moderate Billboard single – especially since Loggins would later have several Top Ten records.
But this is a consistent record, maintaining its mellow mood even when the tempo picks up for the insistent rocker “I Believe in Love.”

Loggins is in good form throughout the record, and if even only the title track entered his readily-acknowledged canon, this has a fine, sustained mood: a late ’70s Westcoast AOR vibe that makes it a nice artifact of its time, as well as one of his stronger records, as illustrated by its platinum status — something it achieved without any blockbuster singles.
Remasters of “Celebrate Me Home” are not easy to find, mostly expensive Japan releases now out of print. So this is a nice chance to get it at a very affordable price.
