SUNBOMB – Evil And Divine (2021)

SUNBOMB is a highly anticipated new musical alliance between two steadfast warriors of the U.S. hard rock/metal scene, Tracii Guns and Stryper vocalist Michael Sweet. They have put together an absolute blinder of a metal album, melding influences of classic acts such as Black Sabbath and Judas Priest with Tracii’s love of metal subgenres.
Drums on the album were handled by Tracii’s old L.A. Guns bandmate Adam Hamilton and bass was handled by Mitch Davis, with the exception of the track ‘They Fought’, which features current L.A. Guns bassist Johnny Martin.

The music style on the record is much heavier than what one would expect from these two musicians and is firmly planted in the ‘metal’ category.
While Tracii wrote the music for the album, the fact that Michael Sweet has been writing in an increasingly heavier style on latter era Stryper albums made him a very logical choice to sing for the band.

“Evil And Divine” is heavy. Dense. Think Black Sabbath at their blackest. All songs are strong in this genre – there’s a Black Sabbath style, almost a sub-genre itself.
It’s really fresh to hear Tracii Guns playing this kind of scales & riffs far from his usual catchy stuff, but even more surprising is to listen to Michael Sweet singing this way. Sweet really took some risks here, out of his comfort zone. So kudos to him for trying something different.

”Evil And Divine” is not the music you’d expect from Tracii & Sweet. This is metal, dark, doomy, intense. It’s very well done for what it is, well composed, performed & produced.
A different beast from these talented musicians, obviously not a one-trick pony.
