A-Z (Alder-Zonder) is an exciting new band that reunites Fates Warning vocalist Ray Alder with Warlord and former Fates Warning drummer, the legendary Mark Zonder.
Joined by Philip Bynoe (Warlord, Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt) on bass, Joop Wolters (Steve Walsh, Simon Phillips) on guitar and Vivien Lalu on keys, the band has a melodic, progressive and deep sound, bringing to mind the classic era of FATES WARNING albums like “Parallels” and “Pleasant Shade Of Grey”, while recalling the hooks and melodies of JOURNEY.
Take a look at the band’s logo on the cover… it doesn’t reminds you of ASIA? Well, that’s an homage, as at places A-Z sounds a lot like ASIA as well.
When Zonder started working on material in early 2020 he had a very clear vision for the band he wanted to put together: create melodic, very accessible music that would appeal to the masses and lead to the ability to tour larger venues. ”I knew from myself and the others that I would recruit, it would have some sophisticated music parts but the big hook was the main priority.” said the drummer.
The goal was always the same: short songs and getting right to the chorus, no twelve-minute songs. The result is a fantastic album with incredible melodies.
