CHERRY St. – Squeeze It Dry [Perris Records reissue 2022] *HQ*

CHERRY St. - Squeeze It Dry [Perris Records reissue 2022] *HQ* - full

After many years out of print, Perris Records is reissuing CHERRY St. 1993’s album “Squeeze It Dry” on CD with a new cover art, a killer glammy hard rock record full of catchy hooks.
While released too late for this genre via a small record label, the CD was manufactured & distributed by major BMG, with tracks produced by Erik Turner (Warrant) and Tommy Thayer (Kiss, Black N’ Blue), mastered & mixed by Pat Regan (Mr. Big) – who also produced some songs – so expect a very good sound here.
CHERRY St. vocalist Roxy Dahl (later known as Chris VanDahl) sang on LA Gums ‘American Hardcore’ album, so we are talking about competent personnel here for classic US glammy hard rock with catchy choruses.
The sound / gain output of this reissue is far better than the original (impossible to find) CD release, kinda ‘remastered’.

Formed in the ’80s CHERRY St. could openly boast that the band’s ever changing line-up had been quite a Who’s Who of L.A. Glam. They probably also hold the title for the most outrageous collective hairstyles ever seen on a rock n’ roll band.

For CHERRY st. the height of the hair obviously held parity with attitude, drive and musical credibility. At various periods the likes of Jamie Scott of Tyketto and even Tigertailz vocalist Steevi Jaimz have been members, however brief their stay. The latter had briefly replaced Roxy Dahl (a.k.a. Chris van Dahl, the ‘Roxy’ nom de guerre apparently adopted in honor of his grandmother) before Jaimz left and Dahl returned, later to cut the band’s ‘Squeeze It Dry’ album.

Chock full of ballsy, swagger, crunchy hooks and some great lead vocal / guitar work, fans of heavier Poison (think Crack A Smile era), late 80s Motley Crue, Britny Fox, L.A. Guns, Love/Hate, etc, will enjoy this album. There really isn’t a bad song on this, the songs overall just crank.
A lost – and very good – piece of classic L.A. glam metal / hard rock.
