INSANIA (US) – Insania (recorded 1989-1995) [Retrospect Records]
As requested, here’s the self-titled album from hard rockers INSANIA, tracks recorded between 1989-1995. Not to be confused with the Swedish power metal act of the same name, this Chicago based five-piece played American melodic hard rock.
The CD includes all the songs Insania recorded in about their six years of existence, ranging from hard rockers to power ballads, with a sound similar to Skid Row and Southgang. The Skid Row comparison comes due to singer Lawren Russell impressive vocal range and tone in the Sebastian Bach style.
Let’s not forget the tight rhythm section, ripping dual guitar work, and catchy hooks.
Despite the influences mentioned Insania had a pretty unique sound, adding a bit of a progressive to their straight hard rock. This is noticeable in the mid-section of the album with songs composed / recorded 1992. The latter tracks showcases Insania looking for a more alternative sound, still retaining the hard rock core.
Sound quality is fine, enough to discover another obscure and good band from the prolific late ’80s, early ’90s american hard rock scene.
