PAINTED SCARS – Kintsugi (2024)
PAINTED SCARS is a brand new heavy-hitting hard rock band from Belgium who are just about to unleash their debut recording titled “Kintsugi” – and any fan of good old fashioned hard rock will be pleased to discover.
This female-fronted combo existing since April 2023, have already picked up plenty of praise for their high intensity live shows where ‘hard n’ heavy’ riffs fused with blazing guitar solos are at the forefront of everything they do. These core assets are then skillfully melded with the edgy vocals of Jassy ‘Hyacien’ Blue to consistently generate enjoyable headbanging moments interlaced with melodic vocals and singalong choruses.
Don’t be confused by the dark, extreme metal type of cover art – this 5-piece play classic hard rock, gritty, and with a melodic hard n’ heavy edge.
“Kintsugi” (the Japanese practice of repairing fractures in porcelain with varnish or resin powdered with gold) is chock full of proper old school hard rock tunes with a rebellious attitude too. “Freedom” and “Glow In The Dark” are prime examples where this deadly duo and punchy combination is so effective that you won’t know whether to break out your air guitar or pogo around like a madman.
More traditional hard rock songs like “Knock Knock”, “Won’t Give Up” and “Liquid Gold” are breakneck speed tunes with booming riffs that totally kick ass from start to finish. You will absolutely lap up every one of these candy on the ears tracks as one by one they completely hit the sweet spot. This is bread and butter stuff with a refreshingly modern twist that is almost guaranteed to put a big beaming grin on your face.
Throw in the big bonus track “Life And Alive” (the first, standalone song PAINTED SCARS recorded past year) and you now have a solid six-track debut extended EP.
The band still need to polish things but considering “Kintsugi” was produced & recorded by themselves the results are more than promising for this energetic new act.
