SHOOTING STAR – Into The Night [Digipak CD edition] HQ – Out Of Print

Cult rockers SHOOTING STAR enjoyed a considerable success during the ’80s with a bunch of great albums. Starting with a pomp/AOR sound which developed into a melodic hard rock vein in the ’90s, Shooting Star always delivered quality material.
After an almost a 10-year hiatus, this cult band from Kansas City recruited a new young singer in Todd Pettygrove, and recorded the comeback album “Into The Night“. This digipak physical edition was a limited CD pressing only sold at shows, now out of print.

One of the most respected acts from the American scene since the very early ’80s, Shooting Star enjoyed a considerable success during that decade delivering a bunch of great albums. Starting with a pomp/AOR sound which developed into a hard rock vein at the ’90s, Shooting Star always created quality material.

Shooting Star was the first American band signed by Virgin Records, with their self-titled debut LP (1980) produced by Gus Dudgeon (Elton John, David Bowie). Their ’85 album ‘Silent Scream’ still is one of my favorite pure Eighties AOR albums from the era, with one of the best cover artworks as well.
In 2006 Shooting Star returned with another solid record and the excellent Kevin Chalfant on lead vocals. The band always has been active with a touring schedule that would be the envy for many established acts.

“Into The Night” finds Shooting Star more ‘classic rock’ oriented with a strong melodic rock foundation, and a young, energetic new singer. There’s quality numbers like the racing opener ‘Don’t Waste My Time’, the anthemic, AORish ‘Hole In My Heart’, the rocking ‘This Is Our Town’ and ‘Bring Down The House’, or the meaty mid-tempo ‘Time Never Surrenders’.

Released by themselves and now deleted / out of print, “Into The Night” is just another strong release for the Shooting Star legacy, an always consistent band in its almost four decades of existence.
