TOMMY VITALY – Indivisible (2017)
TOMMY VITALY, the Italian-born virtuoso guitarist who has achieved a strong reputation in Rock circles during the last ten years, is back with new full length album titled “Indivisible” again featuring renowned vocalists and a stellar band line-up including Vision Divine’s bassist Andrea Tower Torricini and drummer Alessandro Bissa (A Perfect Day, ex- Vision Divine et all).
“Indivisible” is definitely an ’80s hard / metal album with a neoclassical flair at times. Think Yngwie Malmsteen circa his masterpiece Facing The Animal, some Lion’s Share, a bit of early Europe, etc.
The great Carsten “Lizard” Schulz guests on opener and title track ‘Indivisible’, a punchy hard rocker with a Rainbow / Graham Bonnet feel, or maybe Alcatrazz.
The groovy semi-midtempo ‘The Lodge’ will remind you the glorious Tony Martin – Black Sabbath era, then there’s epic, effective shred-fest ‘Macabradanza’ featuring the underrated Roberto Tiranti on lead vocals alongside Chiara Manese’s female harmony vocals.
‘Forever Lost’ provides a welcomed break, an acoustic version of a track from a previous album done with a nice atmosphere featuring Danish Henrik Brockmann (ex Royal Hunt) on vocals. A solid ball of emotions.
“Wings of Doom” returns with speed akin Kai Hansen, ‘Coraline’ has some Axel Rudi Pell in its melody, while ‘Sinner’ is a killer hard rocker in the Yngwie classic vein, when he composed good songs.
For closer ‘Joan of Arc’ Carsten “Lizard” Schulz returns to the mic for a song with some epicness. Of yourse we have two entertaining instrumentals in ‘Duel’ (indeed great guitar / keyboard interplay) and the elaborated ‘La Bestia’.
Tommy Vitaly’s “Indivisible” is a great album in a style from a bygone era but with a terrific updated sound and excellent production. This album just oozes with that good old feeling, avoiding nostalgia and keeping the ’80s tinged classic metal / hard rock sound alive.
This is the kind of stuff Yngwie should be doing right now, and believe me, Vitaly does it greatly. Fans of Rainbow, Alcatrazz, golden-era Yngwie, Axel Rudi Pell, etc, need to check “Indivisible” immediately.
