LOVE / HATE – Let’s Rumble [Bad Reputation remastered +5] HQ *only at 0dayrox*
While their debut ‘Blackout in the Red Room’ may be LOVE / HATE best album, this, their third effort “Let’s Rumble” is not far behind, and just like the two before it packs one hell of a punch. After their second album ‘Wasted in America’, Sony Records dropped the contract – it happened with all the bands of this style between 1992-1993.
But LOVE / HATE refuse to die, and released via a small label “Let’s Rumble” in 1993, cranking the jets on this visceral brash rocker of classic proportions, again blowing the doors off with the first few tracks, then becoming merely one of the best bands in the world for the back half. In our opinion, “Let’s Rumble” is the band’s most complete LP.
This Bad Reputation Records remastered reissue brings back this long time out print – and underrated – album including no less than 5 bonus tracks, B-sides taken from rare singles / EPs.
”Let’s Rumble” opens the show with an expansive boom, ‘Spinning Wheel’ gets head-banged and tribal, ‘The Boozer’ gets technical, then ‘Wrong Side Of The Grape’ enters friggin’ metal offering one of the band’s odd-timed hiccup beats, a nasty riff from new guitarist Darren Householder, and a fab Love/Hate chorus that is all hook, fang and finger.
Householder is a shredder, a virtuoso who bring much more variation tho the band’s sound.
Other fave is ‘Beer Money’, doing that frantic but artful thing these hard rock masters can crank at will, and ‘If You Believe In Miracles’, which is an edgy, metaphysical bluesy ballad with a clouds-break-ing chorus that builds to a morally bankrupt conclusion that seduces the listener into bitter grey angst with more authority than any number of ranting alterno-geeks. Oh, and l would say ‘Here’s To You gets’ pretty much delivers the same soul-crushing result, through more of a hard- hitting, yet still bluesy assault.
All songs on ”Let’s Rumble” are well written (by bass player Skid) and the sleazy factor has not diminished a bit. In fact it may have increased slightly here.
Love/Hate sounds extremely hungry on this third record, as if they wanted fight the industry and the trend of the moment (1993) and does not disappoint in the slightest. The band’s raw power is perfectly captured and the passion bleeds through the speakers.
Technically is very well produced & mixed, and this remaster enhance the whole thing. This album (and this band) are simply one of the most overlooked and underrated in Rock n Roll.
