VELVETEEN QUEEN – Consequence Of The City +4 (2024) HQ *Exclusive*
The story of the Swedish hard rockers VELVETEEN QUEEN begins in 2021 when 4 guys meet at high school and decide to start a band, soon the singer Samuel Nilsson also joins who immediately moves to Gothenburg and then things are going fast for the band and a lot is happening in a short time. Despite their youth, these talented individuals, all aged between 20 and 23, have accomplished more than most bands dream of.
Velveteen Queen has already managed a lot, such as playing at some of Sweden’s biggest festivals such as Sweden Rock Festival, Skogsröjet Festival, Kristianstad Rockfest, Malmöfestivalen and toured through Sweden with Nestor and Hardcore Superstar.
After some singles released, Velveteen Queen will put out their full length debut “Consequence Of The City” this week. The album features some top guests like guitarist Ryan Roxie (Alice Cooper), Mats Leven (Vandenberg, Yngwie Malmsteen) providing backing vocals, Peter Keys (Lynyrd Skynyrd) playing some keyboards, and more.
These guys deliver here a rockin’ raw sound that harkens back to the late 80s and early 90s with inspiration from legendary bands such as Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver.
You can feel the youth energy on tracks like “Barrel Of A Gun”, “Bad Reputation”, “Trauma” and the title track “Consequence Of The City”, all spit a nerve, a dangerousness and a dirtyness in the sound that tickles the teenage rebel in you.
Guns’n’ Roses, LA Guns, Love/Hate and Aerosmith are firmly anchored in the band’s musical DNA as a solid cornerstone. Singer Samuel Nilsson reveals raw nakedness in his expression similar to Axl Rose and sonically there are similarities with Scott Weiland (Velvet Revolver, Stone Temple Pilots).
Lukas Axx’s playing style and persona is shaped from the same school and attitude of classic guitar heroes such as Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Tracii Guns, Billy Duffy and Jimmy Page.
More highlights appear with “Take Me Higher”, “Kenny’s Blues” and the Aerosmith-funky “Last Sensation”. “Dreamer” is also a winner with piano and strings reminiscent of Aerosmith’s Nineties ballads without the cheese.
Despite the young age, Velveteen Queen rocks with style. There’s a focus, self-confidence and professionalism in the band’s sound that you rarely find with debutants. “Consequence Of The City” may not have that instant radio hit, but the song material is consistently really good and varied enough to maintain interest and a desire to hear more.
The album has a youthful freshness and a big, dynamic production that breathes and feels modern. In a world filled with plastic idols and mediocre music, Velveteen Queen is a counterpoint and a shining proof of raw and genuine musical talent.
