PRAYING MANTIS & Paul Di’Anno / Dennis Stratton – Live at Last 1990 [Frontiers Music remaster] (2015)

After drifting away during the second half of the ’80s, PRAYING MANTIS found a spark of resurrection at the end of that decade. In the very late 1989, original Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di’Anno called ex- bandmate guitarist Dennis Stratton, about the Japanese audience wanting to have a ten-year anniversary show to celebrate the origins of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement – and perform iconic Maiden songs.
Both Di’Anno & Stratton needed a back up band, and they asked PRAYING MANTIS founders Chris & Tino Troy, another foundational NWOBHM act. Rehearsals started and the result was “PRAYING MANTIS & Paul Di’Anno / Dennis Stratton“, with this successful, sold-out gig in Japan.

Recorded at Nakano Sunplaza, Tokyo, April 18, 1990, ”Live at Last” was released the same year and it’s a blast of an album. The band performed Iron Maiden classic such as ‘Wrathchild’, ‘Murders in the Rue Morgue’, ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and more – all sung by Di’Anno, who was in great shape. He also sings a Praying Mantis song (‘Cheated’) and one Lionheart (ex Stratton band) song, the classic ‘Hot Tonight’. Dennis sings on the other Lionheart song (‘Dangerous Game’) and Tino / Chris on four other Praying Mantis tracks.
Few music fans noticed that Frontiers Music reissued “‘Live at Last” some years ago, with a great remastered sound. Quality is excellent, and the songs / performances, to die for.

After this concert Stratton joined Praying Mantis and ignited the Troy bros. to re-launch their music career. The result was the terrific comeback studio album “Predator in Disguise”.
A Must Listen not only for Praying Mantis and Iron Maiden followers, but all fans of timeless, classic metal / hard rock.
