While has been bootlegged many times since released in 1991, NUCLEAR ASSAULT fourth studio album “Out Of Order” never has been officially reissued due to legal disputes. Now 2024 NUCLEAR ASSAULT got the rights of the album and are releasing ”Out Of Order [Remastered Reissue 2024]”.
“Out of Order” opened a new chapter in the history of the boys from New York. Still thrash infused, the new album incorporated traditional melodic metal elements, acoustic guitars, even some keyboards to the sound palette. Indeed, the group explored the wide range of heavy metal stylistic devices.
However, opener “Sign in Blood” did not illustrate the new musical direction as its blustering verses, cynical lyrics and the necessary amount of conciseness seemed to indicate that the guys still believed in their previous song formula. But then mid-paced “Fashion Junkie” spoke a different language, sharper guitars and a melodic metal aura.
The dark “Too Young to Die” combined an acoustic guitar with the dense heaviness of the electric six strings in a special way – one of the best NUCLEAR ASSAULT songs.

Another great song is “Save The Planet”: ambitious, thoughtful, textured, melodic. A bit different for them, and a successful diversion. “Preaching To The Deaf” is anti-evangelist thrash, plenty of crunchy guitar leads throughout the track.
The old Nuclear Assault raw power is here in many spots: the aforementioned “Sign In Blood”, “Stop Wait Think” – which has a textured beginning before blasting off into blistering metal, and the double-dealt “Quocustodiat” and “Hypocrisy” offer NA’s typical intensity with a dose of off-kilter difference.

While some first time NUCLEAR ASSAULT fans disliked ‘Out Of Order’ back in the day looking for more of the same, the band needed to evolve, and the attempt at stretching into new musical territories is something that has to be appreciated. At the end of the day, it’s all metal, and well done.
