CHRIS ANTBLAD – Century (out of print)

CHRIS ANTBLAD might be a new name for casual listeners but for AOR die-hards, you know his involvement in the brilliant Spin Gallery album ‘Standing Tall’ from 2004.
Chris was the main lead singer and co-writer along with Tommy Denander, but then he wanted to focus on a solo career.
After years of collaborating with other songwriters such as Randy Goodrum, Jay Graydon, Paul Carrack, Eric Martin, John Bettis and Joe Lynn Turner, he was ready to record his first solo album “Century” which was completed in 2008 but things didn’t go as planned and the album was put on the shelf until Melodic Rock Records agreed to release it.

Chris Antblad’s biggest hero is Bryan Adams which becomes rather obvious when you hear this album, the poppy AOR of “Century” also bring thoughts to Stefan Andersson and Jamie Meyer and we’re talking quality here.
The opening duo of “A Fire Burning” and “Century” are a good introduction of what you can expect on the album, but it just keeps getting stronger and stronger with each track.
The very pure AOR of “Asleep In Your Arms” is an uplifting blissful gem that in terms of style is very much a cross between say solo Jimi Jamison and Journey.

The acoustically filled “Battlefields” could almost have been lifted straight off Mitch Malloy’s debut album, it’s a real slow burner, whilst “Get In Your Car” is straight out of the Bryan Adams and Shannon Noll songbook, a fun rocker.
“When Fools Rush In” and “I Stand Corrected” are true AOR gems, imagine Peter Cetera meets Mr. Mister and you’ll get the picture. Perhaps the most ’80s sounding tracks on the album.
“Jealous Eyes” will appeal to those who worship Work Of Art, whilst “I’ll Keep Holding Onto Love” and “Living A Lie” continue with a more ‘light’ AOR style.

With a soft, sweet voice ideal for this kind of music, Antblad effortlessly sings his way through 13 compositions.
Tasty pieces of ear candy and perfectly accessible songs with beautiful harmonies filled with endless hooks, melodies, vocal harmonies and topped off with a lead vocal performance that is a real highlight of the album.

“Century” really is an incredibly enjoyable album delivered by a highly talented vocalist and songwriter, much more melodic rock oriented than other Antblad’s  solo releases.
