LAVA – X (2023)

Known as the ‘Norwegian Toto’, LAVA has been releasing quality AOR West-Coast for over four decades. Always with vocalist Egil Eldøen and guitar player Svein Dag Hauge at the core, now they are releasing the band’s tenth’s album, titled “X“, where the guys are faithful to the style they’re know for; elaborated songwriting, elegant arrangements and pristine production.
While bass player and songwriter Rolf Graf died in 2013, founder members Svein Dag Hauge & Per Hillestad and long time vocalist Egil Eldøen decided to keep on with the band going playing in Scandinavia and all over Europe all these years, in between their solo careers.
Bands like Lava never disappoints their fans: they know what are expecting, and they deliver. We find breezy melodies, smoothness all over this “X”. If classy songwriting, sublime arrangements, top notch musicianship and pristine production (excellent) are your thing, this Lava tenth disc is for you. It’s that kind of timeless albums you never get tired to listen to, top class AOR to press play over and over again…

EGIL ELDØEN – Welcome Into My Heart [digitally remastered +1] (2022) HQ *Exclusive*

Totally out of the blue and for surprise of many AOR and West Coast collectors there is a new reissue label in Norway which seems to have access to almost every Norwegian release from the 70s and 80s. The Eighties solo albums from LAVA singer EGIL ELDØEN are much sought after within the fans of the genre, so it’s a pleasure to have two of them now on CD.
As part of the ‘Norske Albumklassikere 80-tallet’ series here’s 1985’s ”Welcome Into My Heart”, the solo debut album from Eldøen, long time out of print and for the first time fully remastered, including a bonus track. It’s a smooth, balanced remastering providing a crisp sound not destroying the original.
After releasing 1984’s album ‘Fire’ as LAVA frontman, Eldøen wrote many songs which seemed to poppy / Hi-Tech AOR flavored for the Norwegian West Coast gods, so he used these tunes for his first solo album ”Welcome Into My Heart”, which he recorded in Stockholm with Swedish musicians and his band mate Svein Dag Hauge as producer.
”Welcome Into My Heart” was pretty successful in his Norwegian home and reached #7 at the national album charts, with the single ‘We’ll Make It’ (a duet with Anita Skorgan) getting airplay for weeks in Scandinavian radio. The album was nominated for the Spellemann Prize.
Classy stuff for Hi-Tech AOR & Scandi West Coast lovers…

EGIL ELDØEN – Here We Go Again [digitally remastered +1] (2022) HQ

Totally out of the blue and for surprise of many AOR and West Coast collectors there is a new reissue label in Norway which seems to have access to almost every Norwegian release from the 70s and 80s. The Eighties solo albums from LAVA singer EGIL ELDØEN are much sought after within the fans of the genre, so it’s a pleasure to have two of them now on CD.
As part of the ‘Norske Albumklassikere 80-tallet’ series we have here 1986’s ”Here We Go Again” solo album from Eldøen, long time out of print and for the first time fully remastered, including a bonus track.
Egil Eldøen’s solo debut ‘Welcome Into My Heart’ (1985) was pretty successful in his Norwegian home and reached #7 at the national album charts, but next he had to focus on the next Lava LP “Prime Cuts”, which also saw the light of day in 1985.
It seemed that Egil enjoyed the solo stuff, cause just one year later he had this second effort “Here We Go Again” (1986) ready to go. This time produced by another Lava bandmate – bass player Rolf Graf – music wise absolutely had changed as the album turned out as a slightly more poppier Lava album with a good dose of Hi-Tech AOR.
’80s Scandinavian AOR lovers will love “Here We Go Again”, finely remastered with a smooth sound quality, not brickwalled

P·S (LAVA members) – High Fidelity [digitally remastered / first time on CD] (2021)

Originally released in 1983, ”High Fidelity” is the sole album by P*S, the side project of LAVA members keyboardist Per (P) Kolstad and guitarist Svein (S) Dag Hauge. Much like in the LAVA sound & style at the time – ‘the Norwegian TOTO’ – on P*S / High Fidelity both musicians expand their musical landscape to elaborated arrangements.
Indeed, think TOTO’s more complex side, always melodic. The musicians involved includes all LAVA members, including the superb Egil Eldøen providing lead vocals – but also some Swedish friends like vocalist Björn Skifs and super guitarist Janne Schaffer.
Now, ”High Fidelity” is being released for the fist time on CD (limited edition) as part of the Norske Albumklassikere 80-tallet series, fully remastered from the master tapes…
