DANGER (Sweden) – Danger (2014)

DANGER (Sweden) - Danger (2014) full

On the blog we already presented rockers DANGER back in April when they put out the first single from this, their finally released full length self-titled debut.
With a glam look that rivals the best, it’s really no surprise that these pretty boy sleaze rockers with big hair hail from Sweden.

Danger sticks to the glam / sleaze / hair metal / ’80 Californian scene in full: their music, their lyrics, their looks, everything. You already have enough of this? Well, let me tell you these guys have crafted an album that if released in 1988 in the US, it would have been Platinum certified.
The songs in this CD are a catchy hit after hit, and if you love the genre, this is a must.

Danger sounds partially (obviously) Swedish but with a total American vibe and hair metal tricks: the guitar hooks, the cowbell, the choruses. Imagine a mix of masters Shotgun Messiah, the first Reckless Love and Crazy Lixx (with a touch of Crashdiet) and Motley Crue, Ratt, Black ‘n Blue.
All heard before? Who cares… believe me, the songs in “Danger” are terrific (speaking of glam / sleaze / hair metal music), ridiculously catchy and contagious.

“D.C.A. Hollywood”, “Body To Body” (with some Cinderella on it), the melodic hard rocker “Down With the Devil”, “California Red” (Motley at their peak), the Kiss riff-based “Midnight Shocker”, the arena-ready “On the Rocks”… all are anthem after anthem.
“Rockstar” reminds me the first Brother Firetribe yet less glossy and more sleaze, the bass pumped “On the Edge” is the kind of rocking melodic midtempo that made Shotgun Messiah so great, while “Shout It Out”, despite the included synths, has Kiss / Ace Frehley imprinted all over.

“Danger” sounds like your favorite late ’80s Californian act of all time. It combines the hooks, the choruses, the riffs of an era, and yes, also the clichés, but when used in a such catchy, infectious way, I love it.
The guys in Danger are experienced cats – guitarist Rob Paris used to play in Loud ‘n Nasty – and you can tell that. Despite the self-production, thanks to the tight, oiled instrumentation, the album sounds vital, fresh.

“Danger” never is too sleaze, too heavy or too glammy, but all together and really melodic, resulting in fun, entertaining listening. This is good, really good, in fact, much better than the last works from some of the aforementioned acts above.
SUPER Recommended.
