RUSH – 2112 [40th Anniversary HDTracks Remastered] Hologram Edition (2015)
* HQ
Earlier this year, Universal Music Enterprises kicked off its own celebration of RUSH‘s 40th anniversary with vinyl reissues of classic Rush albums spanning the 70s and 80s, starting with the reissue of Rush’s self-titled 1974 debut, and then Fly By Night, already presented on this blog.
Now it’s time for “2112” Rush’s break through album, triple platinum, and placed #2 on Rolling Stone’s list of ‘Your Favorite Prog Rock Albums of All Time’.
In 2015, vocalist, bassist, keyboardist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart (who joined the band in July, 1974, shortly after the release of that first album and two weeks before the group’s inaugural U.S. tour) will see the reissue of the remaining 14 albums in their Mercury catalog in chronological order.
There will be multiple formats, high-quality vinyl, high resolution Digital Audio editions in DSD 192khz / 24-bit, 96kHz / 24-bit; and some on Blu-Ray Pure Audio.
But this “2112 vinyl Hologram Edition” is truly special: it projects a hologram of the album’s Red Star of Federation artwork, which comes to life when light is shone on the run-out groove of the LP’s second side while the album plays.
It’ pretty awesome. Take a look:
Rush is celebrating their anniversary in a big way. Apart from this great reissues, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famers have already announced an extensive North American tour, which the band has said “will most likely be our last major tour of this magnitude.”
“2112” is the definitive Rush album, highlighted by its seven-part title suite written by Lee and Lifeson, with lyrics by Peart, recounting a dystopian story set in the year 2112.
This release sounds incredible, and worth every penny.
A must have in your collection.
