V.A. – Keep Calm and Salute Queen (2015)
This is simple: “Keep Calm and Salute Queen” is a tribute to Queen compiled by the specialized label in this matter, Cleopatra Records / Deadline.
One of the good news is that these classic, influential songs are performed by a slew of hard rock champions from both sides of the pond. The other, these versions / covers are excellent.
You have really, really good interpretations of all the best songs by Freddie Mercury & Co. such as “We Will Rock You,” “Another One Bites The Dust,” “We Are The Champions,” “Tie Your Mother Down” and more.
Many of these covers have surfaced previously in one way or another (there’s many Queen tribute albums out there) but Cleopatra Records / Deadline have put them all together on one CD in a truly enjoyable tracklist.
We have terrific vocal performances by Joe Lynn Turner, Geoff Tate, Jack Blades, Glenn Hughes, Robin McAuley, Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, Nelson, Tommy Shaw and more, while the musicians are among the best of the genre such as Billy Sheehan, Matt Sorum, Gregg Bissonette, Michael Porcaro and lots more.
The guitarists are top notch as well including Whitesnake’s Doug Aldrich / Reb Beach, Jake E. Lee, Marty Friedman, Steve Stevens, etc.
“Keep Calm and Salute Queen” includes the best (in my opinion) Queen covers ever recorded, greatly performed by these hard rock veterans.
