NITERAIN – Vendetta (2016)
Perhaps the best true hard rock band in Norway right now, NITERAIN are releasing tomorrow their long awaited second album titled “Vendetta“.
After the split of TNT, NiteRain have put Norway in earnest on the map when it comes to classic Hard Rock. With elements of Sleaze and Glam, on this new album the band has succeeded in finding its own musical expression, which they call ‘High Velocity Kickass Rock’n Roll’.
NiteRain is one of the most busy bands from Scandinavia, now touring all over Europe and having this year performed at several festivals, among others Rocklahoma, Sweden Rock Festival and Norway Rock Festival.
Legendary Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood has been visited by NiteRain many times and the last under CrueFest 2015. The band has toured with L.A. Guns and opened for bands like Steel Panther, TNT and Sebastian Bach.
The band’s first album ‘Crossfire’ came in 2013 and received really good reviews including our own, and meanwhile the group released various singles most of them featured in the Advanced Releases samplers here.
Well, NiteRain have perfected their ass-kicking melodic hard rock for this second opus “Vendetta”. The songs are more catchy and production much, much better.
As they say, this is indeed kickass rock’n’roll akin the Sunset Strip golden days with a sound & style strongly influenced by Ratt, Britny Fox, Crashdiet, Jetboy, and of course, a touch of TNT and other Scandinavian bands.
Among my favorites there’s the anthem ‘Come Out’, the Shotgun Messiah meets Motley Crue ‘The Threat’ (love the gang vocals), the bruising ‘Rock n’ Roll’ (some ’80s Skid Row here), and the highly melodic midtempo ‘Something Ain’t Right’.
But all are solid tracks, like the sleazy attitude of ‘#1 Bad Boy’ (great guitars), the stadium ready ‘Electric’ which brings to mind Hardcore Superstar, and the modern sleaze anthem ‘Vendetta’.
Oh, and for the very first time NiteRain try something like a ballad here, which indeed is slow melodic rocker with a poppy feel titled ‘Don’t Fade Away’, and works like a charm.
NiteRain has the riffs, the right singer, the clichés and they have the required sleazy ‘sound’. On top of that they have the look and the attitude… and consistency, both in playing & songwriting.
The countless gigs and tours have shaped a really strong unit in these guys and you can hear here how oiled they sound as band.
“Vendetta” is a huge step forward for NiteRain, a Glam infused Hard Rock quartet with an obvious – and welcomed – love for the ’80s.
