Dario Mollo’s CROSSBONES – Rock The Cradle (2016)
“Rock The Cradle” is the debut album on Frontiers Music of Dario Mollo’s CROSSBONES, released December 2nd. Best known for his partnerships in the The Cage with Tony Martin (ex- Black Sabbath) and Voodoo Hill with Glenn Hughes, Italian guitarist Dario Mollo began his career in 1981 with the band Crossbones. With them, he released his first studio album in 1989.
Now, fast forward 2016 Mollo resurrects Crossbones for a new hot collection of hard rockin’ tunes.
For this new Crossbones album the Italian axeman brought back original drummer, Ezio Secomandi with the lineup completed by his regular collaborator Dario Patti on bass and keyboards.
The choice for the singer was the great and underrated British Carl Sentance (Nazareth, Don Airey Band, Persian Risk, Krokus and many more), who came at the suggestion of Don Airey of Deep Purple, during a recent visit to Dario’s home.
“Rock The Cradle” features 10 hard-hitting, adrenaline-fueled melodic hard rockers that showcase Dario Mollo’s distinctive and explosive guitar playing.
From the pounding opener ‘Red’ to the closing, properly titled charged rocker ‘Fright’ every song kicks you in the face with a polished and clean sound which smells ’80s from every corner.
This is pure classic hard rock (with a traditional metal touch at places) done with and updated production.
Stand out tracks include the hard rocking bliss of ‘Take Me High’, the moodier and heavier ‘Navigation’ with its monster groove, the title track and the brooding ‘Running From The Shadow’.
With ‘Gates Of Time’ Dario Mollo delivers a killer classic metal ballad of the highest order, where the haunting melody, the guitars (just check out the solo here) and the amazing vocals by Sentance creates a classic song.
‘In My Blood’ shows exactly what’s in these guys ADN and that’s classic stuff, while in the mentioned ‘Running From The Shadow’ we have another late ’80s influenced hard rock punchy tune.
There’s a couple of tracks where Mollo add a pinch of progressive, but basically the 10 tracks ‘rocks you’ straight up during 46 minutes plenty of hard-hitting drums, pumping bass lines, a complete lead vocal work and an arsenal of melting guitar riffs & solos.
Another remarkable aspect on “Rock The Cradle” is its bright, punchy, razor-clear production, which benefits the effectiveness of these well-composed songs.
