One of you asked for the best sounding-reissue AEROSMITH albums, especially from the first era. Now here’s the classic “Rocks”, and after listening to several version / releases, this remastered Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 is the one to get.

With their fourth studio album titled “Rocks”, Aerosmith hit their stride, for many, their finest moment.
The album was a commercial success, charting three singles on the Billboard Hot 100, two of which reached the Top 40 (“Back in the Saddle” and “Last Child”). “Rocks” was one of the first albums in the music business to ship platinum when it was released, and has since gone quadruple platinum.

“Rocks” is ranked No. 176 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and it’s regarded by future rock stars such as Guns N’ Roses or Metallica as main influence.
After years of touring and recording, the band finally had the means to truly capture the sounds they wanted to get on tape — a culmination of the potential Jack Douglas spotted in them after being tipped off by fellow producer Bob Ezrin years before.

By the time the group convened to record “Rocks” in early 1976, sweaty kids were going crazy for Aerosmith all over the country. With previous LP Toys In The Attic, they’d set a high bar for themselves, and for the first time, they faced the pressure of following up a major hit record.
But as Perry recalled in his memoir book, the sessions didn’t reflect that tension; instead, the group was fully focused on nailing down “Rocks”, titled after the diamonds you see in the cover.

“Diamonds are called rocks, and nothing is harder than a diamond. I wanted the hardest-rocking record imaginable”, said Perry.

AEROSMITH - Rocks [Blu-Spec CD2 remastered] back

“Rocks” is Aerosmith at their peak, one of the most influential albums from the US Rock scene.
There’s many versions of this timeless album. It was remastered in the Nineties, and it sounds very good. Also appeared a very limited edition SACD (Super Audio CD) which I never had the pleasure to listen to (impossible to find), with a new remaster. Reports say it’s a good one as well, a bit quiet, but good.
And then the 2012 remaster done by the reputable HDtracks.com. However, to me, their work on “Rocks” is horrible, muddy.

So we have chosen this not easy to find Japanese Blu-Spec CD2. It uses the good ’90s remaster, but it has a ‘plus’. Even in lossy format it sounds superior, more defined.
A MUST HAVE Classic
