BOSTON – Don’t Look Back [Japan Blu-Spec CD2 remastered by Tom Scholz] exclusive
A long time contributor of this blog asked for BOSTON albums, best sounding CD reissues. Let’s go now with “Don’t Look Back”, the second, excellent album from the band.
We have been busy comparing several releases of Boston’s “Don’t Look Back”, and finally we have the verdict.
We have listened to CD-only releases, and the best of all is this Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 featuring the 2006 remaster done by Boston’s mastermind Tom Scholz himself, helped by Bill Ryan / Toby Mountain, remastered for the official Epic / Legacy / Sony / BMG version.
This Tom Scholz remaster has been criticized for being ‘too loud’. But that’s audiophile discussions, people who own high end audio equipment. It’s true this “Don’t Look Back” remaster is a bit ‘punchy’, but never saturated and perfectly clear.
This is a modern remastering job: you don’t need to crank it to enjoy the dynamics. For your regular player or the car, this version of the timeless “Don’t Look Back” is great.
