DYNAZTY – Bring The Thunder [Japanese edition] (2017)
While DYNAZTY‘s debut album “Bring The Thunder” was released by Perris Records in the US, oddly it was’t in Japan until past year, when the band started to get pretty popular in Asia.
DYNAZTY musical origins were quite different to what the band is 2018. As you can see in these Swedes’ name, they were inspired by sleazy American hard rock with a strong ’80s hair metal flavor.
And this makes sense because guitarist Rob Love previously was part of ZAN CLAN and RANDY PIPER’s ANIMAL, while lip-luscious vocalist Nils Molin sung in a SEBASTIAN BACH tribute band. You gotta have some vocal pipes to put yourself into Bach’s shoes.
Well, DYNAZTY had the chops and the looks, a young bunch of talented boys hungry for stardom.
“Bring The Thunder” is a fantastic slice of late ’80s inspired songwriting, melodic hard rock with sleazy / hair metal choruses to sing-along all day.
It helps a lot the pristine yet punchy production by guru Chris Laney, and being close friends with the band only gives Laney even more incentive to bring his expertise to the table.
Check out the opener, title track “Bring The Thunder” and the powerful vocals of Molin with mild lyrics; he bring the house down with his screams. Razor sharp guitar riffs, a swirling solo and catchy as hell harmonies in the chorus.
You gotta hear “Lights Out” and packed stadium memories will be back to your senses, yet after these ripping songs DYNAZTY makes you shed a tear as with this true classic melodic ballad “Far Away”, again showcasing Molin’s vocal power and versatility, and how good performers these guys already were back then. Come on, get those lighters up.
There’s a tremendous guitar tandem from Rob Love & John Berg on “Monkey Wants Monkey Needs” plus those phenomenal high notes that Molin nails. Funny, this is not even one of my favorite tracks yet it still blows me away.
“Adrenaline” makes justice to its title, musically recalling CRAZY LIXX, another band who has evolved wonderfully over the years. The meaty “Take Me Down” has some BRITNY FOX on it and that’s a good thing for me.
DYNAZTY added a bonus track called “Sail Away” that is slightly heavier (think SKID ROW) with a slashing guitar work that goes off the hook with power chords and solos and will leave you with the impression; “Is there anything these guys can’t do?”
Well, the answer is “No!” as you can hear in the band’s awesome new album Firesign.
Yes, over the years DYNAZTY evolved into one of the greatest hard rock / metal bands from the current global scene, but they were already stupendous since the beginning.
“Bring The Thunder” is a fan-damn-tastic slice of ’80s stuff cleverly composed, perfectly executed and deliciously produced. In 1987, this album would went platinum in a month.
