LEGION – Rising (2019)
This 2019 sees the return of one of the most prolific hard rock bands in recent history. Marred by mismanagement and contract troubles, LEGION never reached their full potential and after 8 official releases and no return for their efforts, it was time to call it quits three years ago.
Fast forward to 2019 and enter Dutch label Rock Company Records. This up and coming label will now release tomorrow the brand new Legion album “Rising”.
Yes, Legion are back, with the classic line up of Vince O’Regan, Phil Vincent, Gav Cooper, Andy Pierce, and Irv Parrot to the melodic hard rock world, and turning the volume to 11.
All Legion albums have been featured on this blog, and if you enjoyed them, then “Rising” will not disappoint.
The band is strongly influenced by the ’80s sound, and from album to album has alternated between melodic hard rock and some melodic metal.
This comeback CD is pretty edgy at places, such as on the sharp ‘Nothin’ to Me’, ‘How Does It Feel’, and the heavy n’ angry ‘Politician’. In ‘Only the Strong Survive’ the band almost sounds like Queensryche.
The Dokken-like touches are still present, as on ‘Got a Line on You’ (one of the best tracks) and midtempo ‘Found out the Hard Way’, also the Winger-esque feel on the very melodic ‘Maybe Now…’
Legion was criminally ignored in the past, and if you are one of those better check this album as this is a really fine slice of classic 80 / 90s melodic hard rock. These lads have perfected their craft, just effective and entertaining rockin’ stuff.
