Sweden’s answer to Toto, WORK OF ART came into the scene to translate its ambitious name into infectious melodies, quality songwriting and confident musicianship with their awesome debut album “Artwork“. This is AOR of nearly the finest order; crisp, clean and full of emotional lyrics and swooning choruses that also stir memories of Giant and Journey.

Singer, keyboardist and producer Lars Säfsund wraps himself up in these dozen songs – plus one bonus track on this out of print, hard to find Japanese edition – and gives “Artwork” the look and sound of a veteran band, not a debut record.
His playing bounces, while a powerful yet tasteful rhythm section ensures that everything glue.

All tracks are great, if I have to mention highlights check the guitar led “Peace of Mind”, the upbeat “Her only Lie”, the keyboard driven “Too late”, the progressive twist of “Whenever you Sleep”, the riff-based “Lost without your Llove”, all of which are meant to convince event the most demanding AOR enthusiast.

Last and above all, the opener “Why Do I?” is amongst the most infectious melodic rockers ever that requires no more than a listen for one to mumble its chorus through the following days.

The entire album is very reminiscent of Toto’s “Farenheit” and “Seventh One” era, with that sound production and feeling. It is more than evident that the trio has a clear vision of the way each song should come out but most importantly they are able to control the mood/atmosphere each composition delivers the listener.
Work Of Art’s “Artwork” is a must.
