STARMEN – Kiss The Sky (2020)

And here we have a ‘mysterious’ band from Sweden; STARMEN, and their new album “Kiss The Sky“. This is one of these groups where band members are featured under fictitious names, and all behind a mask – in this case, different color stars – in an obvious KISS homage.
The ‘Starmen’ play classic melodic rock – with 80s inspiration of course – mixed with AOR elements and fans of Def Leppard, Fair Warning, Eclipse, Whitesnake, Gotthard will love them.
The main man here is Kristian Hermanson, a vocalist / songwriter who during the 90s was part of obscure (and good) AORsters Cleaopatra, and did lead vocals at the early stages of The Poodles.

The band showcase their passion and taste for classic hard rock here, in addition developed their own, fresh 2020-sound.
They deliver a hot version of Bob Dylan’s classic ‘All Along The Watchtower’, which was also covered by Jimi Hendrix, U2 and more, but it’s on their own material where they are very interesting. Starmen have both the musicianship and songwriting skills to accomplish their goal.
At places they add something of a funky groove, sometimes with synths, mixed with their melodic hard rock style.

Fundamentally, Starmen’s ‘Kiss The Sky’ is the band’s second attempt to channel and emulate their heroes of classic rock by creating original music in that style. It’s fun stuff with a Seventies / Eighties feeling, very well done in the Scandinavian tradition.
