LEFT LANE – In Common (1985) [P-Vine Japan Remaster 2018 / first time on CD] *EXCLUSIVE*
It’s a pleasure to fulfill this request: the Japanese-only release of “In Common“, the 1985 sole album from LEFT LANE, the band led by Peter & Jim Mayer who later formed cult-classic AOR band ‘PM’ in the late ’80s.
“In Common” has previously only been available on LP in Sweden through Sison Music, however in a extremely limited edition. But now, thanks to P-Vine Records, we able to enjoy this album for the first time ever on CD, fully remastered.
Mixing Westcoast, mid-Eighties Lite AOR and sweet melodic progressive elements, the songs are elaborated pieces delivering impressive instrumentation with smooth vocals. Love the tightness of the sound, at places bringing to mind the jazzy-pop fusion of TOTO and Jay Graydon’s projects. Lovers of PM’s 1988 self-titled album will find much to enjoy as well.
LEFT LANE features Peter Mayer on guitar and vocals, Jim Mayer (bass), drummer Roger Guth, and Ray Kennedy on keyboards. One of the bonuses of this record is getting to hear the amazing artistry of the late Ray Kennedy, a brilliant pianist who was musical director and arranger for guitarist / vocalist John Pizzarelli, and many other jazz / Westcoast greats through his years.
This album includes the original vocal songs “In Common” and “Garden Wall”, which were instrumental versions on the awarded Dave Weckl’s debut album “Master Plan” 1990.
”In Common” was recorded and engineered by Jay Oliver (Jay Graydon band) in Studio 88 in St. Louis, produced as a joint venture with Oliver and the band.
A LP nearly impossible to find all these years, with its mix of exquisite instrumental, vocals and polished production, “In Common” is without a doubt one of the most intelligent collections of music recorded in this genre.
