TEMPT – Runaway [Rock Candy Records release] HQ

All rockers who follow the world of Rock Candy Records would have noticed that the label have never issued material from a new artist. Indeed, their speciality is primarily to shine a spotlight on remastered reissues – records that in one way or another, were vastly overlooked at the time or are of such a high quality that they needed to be re-examined and brought back into focus, buffed-up and given a truly five star re-appraisal.
“Runaway“, the debut by New Yorkers TEMPT marks the first release by Rock Candy Records from a new artist / album. And it’s darn good one.
Tempt first effort showcases a young, but thoroughly contemporary band, playing a style of music that evoked memories of the great melodic hard rock bands of the past. Tempt’s musical delivery is quite modern, yet the musicianship and spirit bring to mind classic Van Halen, Aerosmith, Def Leppard and more.

Obviously raised on a healthy dose of ’80s hard rock, frontman Zach Allen and guitar virtuoso Harrison Marcello led the band through 14 melodic hard rock songs in the vein of all of your heroes from yesterday: apart from the aforementioned legendary acts, Tempt adds, at places, the rocking attack of Dokken, the melody of Firehouse, and the bluesy hard rock overtones of Tesla.
And they deliver in fine style, tweaked by legendary producer / engineer Michael Wagener.
While the Swedes almost seem to have a lock on this sort of hard rock, these guys from the Big Apple may give them a run for their money.

Tempt has gone on to craft a truly spellbinding debut album; one that confronts the listener with a blast of the present but suggests a comforting whiff of the past.
Crucially, all the elements are in place, from great vocals, incredible guitar playing and brilliantly crafted songs with enough twists and turns to not only satisfy the musically inclined but also to appeal to folk who just wanna rock.
