RIK EMMETT – REC Room Collection [Fan Club only CD of Unreleased Songs] *0dayrox Exclusive*
A few days ago we featured ex- Triumph leader RIK EMMETT new album ‘Diamonds: The Best Of The Hard Rock Years”, and now we’re presenting in exclusive at 0dayrox Rik’s “REC Room Collection“, a professionally pressed CD (including booklet) only available for his Fan Club back in 1999 containing 13 unreleased songs. A collectible, only a few CD’s were done.
These are wonderful compositions full-band recordings taped at several sessions during the first half of the ’90s, great tunes displaying Emmet’s melodic sensitivity. Chances are these recordings never will be official released.
A collectible indeed.
The first three songs are taken from a DAT, a full band recorded live in the studio. According to Emmett, ”A (friendly) experiment in terror – under-rehearsed and flying by the seat of our pants, we went for it anyway, that night”.
Rik explains; “I was also under the influence of Anaprox, because I had put my back out that morning, and could hardly breathe or walk without pain… so I was pretty loosey-goosey, and missed a few cues & notes here & there (but didn’t really care too much!…). I have actually edited out some of the longer solo sections & things, and of course, there are many other songs from this date in the can…”
Then we find professionally recorded demos: outtakes from Emmett’s early ’90s hard rocking solo albums, the great ‘Absolutely’, ‘Ipso Facto’, and ‘The Spiral Notebook’. A shame these tracks didn’t make it in the final albums, as all are darn good.
And the CD is completed by acoustic numbers, deliciously written and performed. Emmett is a unique Rock / electric guitar player, but also so delicate on the acoustic. One of these songs was co-written with another talented Canadian; Ian Thomas.
