BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION – V (2024) *HQ*
BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, the super-group featuring legendary vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH), guitarist Joe Bonamassa, drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER, ALICE COOPER), will release its highly anticipated fifth studio album, “V“, on June 14.
Produced by longtime collaborator Kevin Shirley, “V” marks a monumental chapter in the band’s storied career, embodying a renewed spirit and an evolution of their unmistakable sound.
Each song on “V” showcase the group’s ability to fuse British bluesy hard rock with American soul in a way that captivates audiences of all ages. An album that reaffirms their status as rock royalty and display their growth as musicians and storytellers.
This BCC fifth album is a 10-song, 51-minute classic rock masterpiece and it kicks off with the incredible “Enlighten.” The song is a thundering fusion of hard rock and blues in the 4-piece signature style. The blues part is more in focus with the following “Stay Free” before “Red Sun” throws a dark riff at you. This slower-paced track is the perfect ending of the first triple of tunes, and it perfectly reflects what listeners can expect from “V”.
You might even want to add “Restless” which is the slower and emotion-laden blues ballad, a song that is touching.
The classic rock and bluesy union is back during “Skyway” and one thing is clear: this tracklist is flawless. Each of the four musicians contributes to the song’s overall success, and the focus is on the song itself, not the individual egos. “V” is the result of combining various strengths to create something even stronger.
“Love and Faith” is full of Led Zeppelin influences, no surprise there with Jason Bonham behind the drum kit. “Too Far Gone” is an upbeat and straightforward track, while “The Open Road” is the funky rocker that acts as the final chapter of this outstanding release.
Black Country Communion did what they are best in – writing great classic rock songs and performing them with passion and dedication. It feels like each of the four guys uses the outlet as a project that allows them to look beyond the frame of their usual bands.
Freedom fosters creativity, and you’ll find plenty of it while listening to “V”.
