MIND OF FURY – III (2024)
Hailing from Florida, MIND OF FURY‘s music takes the best from classic US melodic metal, adds some hard rock groove, and at times a very commercial melodic hard / neo classical feel – with synths et all – akin Yngwie 1987 Odyssey-era.
This trio formed almost a decade ago consisting of drummer Henry Moreno (ex-Imagika, ex-Taunted), basssit Mike Frankenbush and vocalist / guitarist Ghee Yeh; the latter bringing experience of a previous album collaboration with Nick Z. Marino, Yngwie Malmsteen’s keyboard player.
MIND OF FURY are releasing their new, third album, simply titled “III“, where the band nails their signature sound described above; replicating the magic of the old guards of metal, with their own updated twist.
For reference at places MIND OF FURY brings to mind Armored Saint, ’80s Yngwie, early Queensryche, some Impellitteri, a bit of Nineties Metallica, etc.
Opener ‘Screaming In Silence’, after a thuddingly heavy intro, a thunderous drum roll forms much of the core. Vocals are clean and very melodic with an uplifting refrain. Lyrically, it’s very much in the realm of traditional metal, and the guitar riffs / sound pretty classic, with the addition of background keyboards.
‘Now or never’ is more hard rocking, catchy yeat heavy. ‘Never again’ even borders commercial neo classical similar to Yngwie / Turner circa 1987. With ‘Freedom rain’ classic US metal returns with swirling guitars all over.
‘Wake up your life’ is a midtempo melodic hard rocker plenty of keyboards, more commercial Yngwie here, even Axel Rudi Pell.
A clean electric guitar opens the solid slow tune ‘You and I’, a metal ballad very well executed. With ‘Enemy the trio put the pedal to the metal with an aggressive attack. Next we go for hard rock groove on the intense ‘Inside of you’.
More dynamics appear on ‘Save your prayers’ with its slightly mid-Eighties Queensryche feel, The closer ‘Close your eyes’ rides over a broken riffs to end the albums with little progressive arrangements
MIND OF FURY manages everything by themselves, and the recording is finely done, properly mixed and mastered. The good thing is the trio is plenty of ideas, with varied but tenacious songwriting.
This is good indie band and “III” deserves a proper listen.
