My Oh My…
I’ll be concise here. In my opinion YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN still is one of the greatest rock guitar players alive. His shows are a blast and the Swede has enough killer songs from his glorious past recordings to fulfill a terrific live set.
But you can’t live in the past when releasing new material, it’s a waste of talent.

Yngwie has not made a consistent album since his masterpiece ‘Concerto Suite’, fifteen years ago. And it was a ‘special’ release, not his rockin’ side.
At first glance, when I heard that his new album “Spellbound” would be mostly instrumental, hoped for the definitive return of the Master, with a fresh approach.
Not only “Spellbound” is quite boring and repetitive, Yngwie poorly sings on three tracks and played everything. My Oh My…
But the worst part (there’s still some amazing guitar parts here) is the sluggish production: cheap demo-like programmed drums and an overall quite flat sound. You don’t need this SHM-CD for sure, just get the regular edition if you’re a fan.

You can’t lose your talent, but your inspiration. Yngwie urgently needs open his mind to outside contributors. Songwriters, musicians, producers.
Rising Force was a tight band, this is not Rising Force, it’s a waste of talent.

Regarding Stratovarius, of course, this awesome blog, always and ever, promotes to support the artists buying their work. But you actually know that some journalist and other species have contact with the keeper of the 7 keys …
    Cheers

The last great album of Malmsteen was the fabulous Face The Animal. I'm a big fan of Yngwie's work, but he was lost musically and productions are terrible and amateurish!
Yesterday I was listening to the Seventh Sign and wondered, how can a guitarist be able to write a book as beautiful as Seventh Sigh and today shitting in their past releasing records really boring and poorly written?

Really bullshit, it's a pity but actually truth. Check it out, Hinder «Welcome To The Freakshow», not too bad for a yankie. Cheers!
