STYX – Cornerstone [Japanese SHM-CD Limited Edition UICY-93923] *HQ*

One of you asked for the quality of the Japanese cardboard sleeve (mini LP) first reissue series of STYX on high quality SHM-CD. Well, in one word, this pressing quality is outstanding.
For many among their best LP’s, “Cornerstone” was Styx’s follow-up to their second consecutive Top 10 selling Triple Platinum album in a row, 1978’s Pieces of Eight.
Like the four previous Styx studio recordings, the band produced the album themselves once again. However, they started using a new recording studio Pumpkin Studios in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Plus, the album was the first where the band shied away from the art-rock/prog-rock influences that dominated their first eight studio albums and was the band’s first move towards a more melodic rock direction…

SHOW-YA – Outerlimits +2 [SHM-CD remastered] HQ *0dayrox Exclusive*

All-female Japanese melodic rockers SHOW-YA crystalized this year their comeback with the really good new album ‘Showdown’, and some of you asked for their best – specifically one of their more AOR – records from the ’80s. The answer should be 1989’s ‘Outerlimits’, with all that year type of sound with keyboards and a glossy production.
Here’s the recent reissue of ”Outerlimits +2 [SHM-CD remastered]”, for the first time on SHM and including two bonus tracks (singles B-sides). This special edition appeared as celebration for the band’s 30th anniversary.
With their national hit songs, TV appearances, and Japan’s biggest female band event held by Show-Ya themselves, they are one of the most well-known metal related acts in this country, whether be it male or female. You can also find a lot of younger musicians heavily influenced by them…

KANSAS – Audio-Visions [Japan Blu-spec CD remastered]

We started posting here all KANSAS early albums as these are essential to understand how this great band and overall contemporary Rock music has evolved over its history. And how better than this Japanese reissue cardboard sleeve series pressed on high quality Blu-spec CD format, fully remastered and including bonus tracks.
Early KANSAS albums needed a proper remastering to update / clean the sound but also preserve the original harmonics and analog tapes warm nature. These Blu-spec CD are amazing, believe me.
1980’s “Audio-Visions” was to be the last album with the band’s original lineup until 2000’s, and where they started to embrace the rising AOR sound from the beginning of the decade, much like STYX did around the time.
Overall, several tracks here rank among the absolute best that Kansas has ever done, especially if you like their more melodic rock side, interspersed with very good proggy compositions with all Kansas trademarks.

Early KANSAS albums needed a proper remastering to update / clean the sound but also preserve the original harmonics and analog tapes warm nature. These Blu-spec CD are amazing, believe me.
Their first studio album to be produced by the band themselves, ”Monolith” would be the third studio album release by Kansas to rank in the Top Ten of the Billboard album chart, including the single ‘Reason to Be’, a fan favorite from the the group’s catalog.
“Monolith” is a great Kansas album that has a bit of the prog punch of earlier works, while moving in a more mainstream direction. It’s commercial and intricate at the same time, joyful and plenty of amazing arrangements.
“Monolith” is one of Kansas’ albums in desperate need of an update, as in my opinion the keyboards were buried in the mix. While this isn’t a remix of the album, this remastering on Blu-spec make them and the whole instruments much more clearer and defined…

Fronted by the unique Gary Hughes, Britain ’90s leading melodic hard rock / AOR band TEN celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015. While some TEN albums are criticized by its production – in fact, for their too many layers of sound – with 2001’s “Far Beyond The World” Gary Hughes & Co. opted for a more ‘straight’ AOR / Melodic Rock recording, and the result is one of the best CD’s of the decade for the genre.
It’s that good…

Early KANSAS albums needed a proper remastering to update / clean the sound but also preserve the original harmonics and analog tapes warm nature. These Blu-spec CD are amazing, believe me.
KANSAS fourth effort “Leftoverture” was their breakthrough album and a thorough representation of its assorted musical sensibilities combining hard-driving group instrumentation (with a dearth of flashy solos) with short, tight melody lines and melodic singing.
And it has the timeless classic ‘Carry On Wayward Son’, but there’s much more inside…

Early KANSAS albums needed a proper remastering to update / clean the sound but also preserve the original harmonics and analog tapes warm nature. These Blu-spec CD are amazing, believe me.
Third effort ”Masque”, their second album of 1975 (yes, two albums the same year!) found Kansas stumbling upon their identity in real time, building from featherweight rockers to majestic instrumental progressive workouts. The sextet would seamlessly bridge those two paths by 1976’s ‘Leftoverture’, but ”Masque” laid a crucial foundation…

“Song For America”, their second album released April 1975 is a killer full tilt symphonic rock LP comprising four lengthy intricate pieces and two very American style romps. Kansas’ second album very admirably showcases the band’s trademark duality as proggers and rockers…

TEN’s third album ”The Robe” always has been celebrated for its mix of their first melodies with a more hard rocking style, an advance of what they would develop in full on the next CD. On the other hand, the albums has been criticized for its muddy production. This remaster has improved the sound quality incredibly.
