SKIN – Up Close And Personal (2021)

Few days ago we featured in exclusive SHADES OF GREY, the new project from ex- JAGGED EDGE / SKIN guitarist & vocalist Myke Gray. He is reissuing by himself as well SKIN‘s album “Up Close And Personal“, originally available en 2009 in limited copies and long time out of print.
“Up Close And Personal” was the ‘reunion’ album for SKIN as a band, as they were freezed for some time. It’s an acoustic affair featuring new arrangements, re-imagined songs with a different and very enjoyable approach. We find new material into the track list as well.

SHADES OF GREY (Myke Gray of Jagged Edge / Skin) – ”2021” *0dayrox Exclusive*

It’s been 30+ years since Jagged Edge released their sole album ‘Fuel For Your Soul’ a first and last long player before the band split. It was an album full of great songs and hinted at what might have been. Guitarist Myke Gray of course went on to form UK melodic rockers Skin and is currently focused on his SHADES OF GREY project.
While on the cover art you see a full band, on this album (only on physical CD) titled ”2021” Myke perform all vocals and instruments but drums which co-producer Pete Newdeck (Midnite City, Nitrate) handles.
The album is a great collection of songs with a classic rock / melodic rock meets glam. Myke Gray wanted to create the kind of record that he would listen when he was a kid. It has full on Glam rock tracks like ‘Wam Bam’, classic rock infused like ‘California’, while Def Leppard fans circa 1981 will go crazy with ‘Turn It Up Louder’.
Not only is this all beautifully crafted but you can just tell Gray is having an absolute ball as the hooky, slinky rhythm of the songs grabs you from the off.
Pure musical ’70s / ’80s sunshine and an antidote to these troubled times.

SKIN – Hasta La Vista, Baby! [Japanese Edition Remastered] Out Of Print

As requested, here’s another hard to find / out of print album by UK melodic hard rockers SKIN. “Hasta La Vista, Baby!” was recorded at London’s La Two on 26th April 1998, during the very last show on their farewell UK tour before they disbanded in good terms.
This Double-CD capture Skin at their best, rocking hard and with melody as driving force. As the original release was pretty raw in sound, for the Japanese market the tapes were remastered to get a more polished experience.
Rare and very good record, a collector’s item.

SKIN – Absolutely Live At The Borderline [Japanese reissue +3] RARE

As requested, here’s the Japan-only release of British melodic hard rockers SKIN album “Absolutely Live At The Borderline”. Here the band performs some awesome versions of Van Halem Deep Purple, Montrose and more classic songs showcasing how good these gals were, alongside Skin’s own hits.
But three years after its original release, an arrangement was done with Japan Victor Company for this reissue, including as bonus tracks studio songs only appeared on rare standalone singles.
Great band, great songs, and a great collectors item.

People reading this website are already quite expert in the type of music featured here, so those of you familiar with UK Hard Rock will know the name of guitarist MYKE GRAY from his time in two much loved bands of the late ’80s / early ’90s: JAGGED EDGE and SKIN. Some might even recall a brief stint in UFO or recently in RED, WHITE & BLUES. again with great singer Matti Alfonzetti.
Well, “Shades Of Gray” is MYKE GRAY’s debut solo album. It sounds absolutely fabulous and while is pretty much instrumental, this album works very well. There’s guest vocals of Lorraine Crosby (of Meat Loaf fame) as well.
