INGLORIOUS – Inglorious (2016)
INGLORIOUS self-titled debut album is tagged by Frontiers Music as the beginning of the next big thing, the great white hope for classic hard rock, those halcyon days when we had real guitar heroes and true Rock was king.
The buzz around this group is thankfully for once, warranted, and as opener ‘Until I Die’ ushers in the band 11 track debut album you become one with the music. This is what rock music can do, Inglorious are firing on all cylinders make no mistake.
The band are made up of international musicians including rhythm guitarist Wil Taylor, lead guitarist Andreas Eriksson, bassist Colin Parkinson and drummer Phil Beaver. Whilst most of the UK will know vocalist Nathan James for his attempts at reality shows The Voice and Superstar. The guy with the voice has finally found his home and that home is with Inglorious.
This is clearly not a vehicle for James though, because together is where their true strength lies.
“Inglorious” features guest writers including Al Pitrelli (Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Danger Danger), Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger, Whitesnake) and Neil Fairclough (Queen). So you kind of know what to expect from that stellar line up.
Songs like ‘High Flying Gypsy’, ‘Holy Water’ and ‘Warning’ invoke memories of Bad Company, with James easily handling the emotion, and the blues feel is another thing that warms up my cockles.
‘Bleed For You’ is charming with its light and shaded mood having the feel of an old Scorpions number. Mid-paced they then rock up with harmonies, and come on like Thunder fronted by a deeper toned John Sloman for ‘Girl Got a Gun’. It revolves around its rhythmic beat to feed a glistening mother of a riff, allows for a sing-along chorus then pulls a blinder as Eriksson whizzes round his fretboard.
One of the best songs for me is ‘You’re Mine’, which is a heavy slab of prime Def Leppard / Zeppelin / Whitesnake at their best. This is the kind of songs that Coverdale & Co. needs to be doing but clearly hasn’t the chops to do it anymore, but hey with James on the case, we needn’t worry. This song along with ‘Wake’ are proof that classic rock is safe in the hands of Inglorious.
“Inglorious” consists of 11 tracks of pure molten classic hard rock, there is no filler, just killer after killer.
Seriously, the band sounds great and production is really good, but the star here are the songs, awesome songs I’d say.
For sure, one of the best Classic Hard Rock albums of the year
