KNOCK OUT KAINE – Cruel Britannia (2016)
British quartet KNOCK OUT KAINE will slam another homerun out of the park next April 4th, this time in the form of a 4-track EP titled “Cruel Britannia“. The release it’s done to satisfy the fan’s demand while the band finish the recording of their 3rd full length album.
“Cruel Britannia” delivers four tracks; 2 originals, 1 cover version & 1 re-recording.
The cover of ‘Copperhead Road’ (originally recorded by Steve Earle) has been a Knock Out Kaine live show fan favourite for many years now, to finally have a studio recording is great a the band give their own spin on this bluesy rocker.
Originally released back in 2012 on their debut album House Of Sins, the re-recorded version of ‘Going Down’ is a very good choice. The original was really good but this version is greater still. The band are on fine form and sounds like they had a rare old-time recording it. You cannot help but smile to it.
Then there’s the new 2016 songs.
Track 1 ‘Cruel Britannia’ shows Knock Out Kaine’s serious side. Probably about as political as this band gets. Full of satire & biting social commentary that basically sums up the feeling of the United Kingdom & the current government as it stands. Musically kicks with a vintage hard rock swagger.
‘Love The Way You Hate’ was originally composed for the band’s second album. It never made into the final tracklist, and I’m glad the band now properly recorded it. It’s a catchy melodic rocker with lots of harmony vocals and an infectious riff.
If you know the band you’ll be greatly pleased by this new EP. If you’re just learning about Knock Out Kaine now then you’re in for a treat. Their rock n’ roll music nod heavily to the hair metal bands of the ’80s but bringing it more up to date.
Production is really good with a clean mix and a punchy yet melodic output.
