We had already featured here GARY MOORE‘s “Blues And Beyond” in its 2-CD digipak version, a remarkable collection of Moore’s powerful and emotive blues studio recordings, and a fitting tribute to the Irish guitarist, who died in 2011. Now here’s the “Blues And Beyond – 4CD Limited Edition Box Set” (different cover artwork) including another 2 CDs of newly mixed live recordings, previously unheard versions.

The 2-CD digipak contains a selection of songs from Moore’s career and has been carefully chosen to show a good variety of styles, so it’s not just the Bluesy numbers, there are some heavier songs in there too.
It’s a selection curated by his guitar tech, Graham Lilley, so it’s not just the most popular songs, it includes less well known songs too. In fact the lack of ‘Still got the Blues’ is a good indication of the willingness to choose an interesting selection of tracks that stands apart from the “best of” type compilations.

For the fan who wants more, this “Blues And Beyond – Limited Edition 4CD Box Set” (or a vinyl equivalent) gives you the same two discs as the basic version but adds two more discs of live material plus a book.
The 2 live discs include a couple of new versions of songs, one of which was played live before it was completed and released, so the live version is quite different to the final version that made it onto a studio album.

Gary Moore never found life easy. He had demons to battle, could be his own worst enemy and made quite a few extra ones on the way. But when he suddenly died in 2011, the outpourings of admiration and grief from fellow musicians and fans around the world was heartfelt.
“Blues And Beyond – Limited Edition 4CD Box Set” is a must for Gary Moore fans, as alongside these fine studio tracks, the previously unreleased live material on the other two discs is a big attraction.
