LIVERBOX – Rock N’ Roll Salvation (2018)
“Rock N Roll Salvation” is the debut album of the Finnish based Glam hard rockers LIVERBOX. The whole thing was recorded at the Wah Wah Studios in Oulu, Finland and produced by Kari Vähäkuopus, who previously worked with bands like Burning Point and Catamenia. It contains 10 tracks, with “Everlastig Fire” listed as a bonus track.
The sound of Liverbox is classic glammy hard rock heavily influenced by bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Dogs D’Amour, Faster Pussycat, and of course, country fellas Hanoi Rocks.
Glam Rock has many variants: poppy, metal, melodic and some of its wildest sides is Sleazy Rock, where some nasty Punk Rock influences can be detected. So we can classify the work from LIVERBOX as Sleazy Rock, because it’s what “Rock N’ Roll Salvation” is about.
The album’s title is an irony, a thing that can be seen on sleazy bands, along with some lyrics that can make all political correct to run away cry for their mammas.
These four indecent are unleashing a melodic, nasty and catchy form of Glam Metal in “Rock N Roll Salvation”, filled with excellent and charming melodies, very good choruses, but with those ferocious elements that in the ’80s were reasons for fueling PMRC speeches and complaints.
Yes, it’s really very good sleazy rock, unpolluted and with attitude.
The album’s production is able to build something that could sound nasty but clean at the same time. It reached a very good level, evading to sound outdated, but with an excellent organic feeling, like they just turned up the amps and played the songs.
Everything feels lively, it doesn’t seem that “Rock N’ Roll Salvation” had too many pro-tools edits.
When the album starts to play, step out of their way, because it’s like a locomotive running down a hill full steam ahead.
We can say the crude energy of “Falling Apart”, the excellent groove that fills the guitar riffs on “Blackbird ‘72”, or the savage and hooking dirty approach of “Now or Never”, that rawness that is usual to Sleazy Rock bands that can be heard on “Saviour of Rock N’ Roll”.
However, there’s catchiness, like on the highly commercial “Sick Love” (fine chorus and great backing vocals), and a heavy but accessible sound in “Sweet Sister of Salvation”.
LIVERBOX are a new, fresh combo delivering unadulterated and uncompromising sleazy hard rock, wild n’ dirty but easily listenable, accessible. A promising act from Finland.
