New year, and many new interesting releases coming up. Here’s some great advanced singles.
Prog geniuses DREAM THEATER have released the second advance from their upcoming 14th album ‘Distance Over Time’, set to arrive on Feb. 22, 2019 via InsideOut Music. Titled ‘Fall Into The Light’ , this is an example of a very guitar-riff-driven song on the album. There’s some fast heavy passages, however a mellow section in the middle, which gets sort of orchestral and very melodic. Stupendous track.

Last year US rockers TORA TORA were approached by Frontiers Music about recording a proper new studio album and they enthusiastically jumped at the opportunity. The resulting LP, “Bastards Of Beale”, set for release on February 22, brings back the magic of the band’s blues-rooted hard rock sound that gained them a loyal following upon their debut in the late ’80s. ‘Silence the Sirens’ is the first single.

WHITESNAKE will release ‘Slide It In: The Ultimate Special Edition‘, available on March 8th. The 6CD/DVD collection includes newly remastered versions of both the UK and US mixes of the album as well as the 35th Anniversary Remixes from 2019, plus unreleased live and studio recordings. “Ready An’ Willing [Live Glasgow ’84 / unreleased]” is the first advance.

‘Power Crazy’ is the new THE TREATMENT album out March 22 via Frontiers Music. “Bite Back“ is the first single, a fun classic hard rocker, melodic and catchy.

Singer-songwriter MATTHEW SHAD has just released the single ‘Keep Holding On’. Matt is also a guitar teacher, works on commercials and also recorded rock & pop music. But his true love is timeless AOR / Melodic Rock and ‘Keep Holding On’ is the first song he recorded in this style. Judging the quality of the song, we need more Matt!

Last year DEGREED released their excellent self-titled album, which opened new doors for the band and shortly after the release they spent a month on the road together with Swedish rockers H.E.A.T all over Europe. Now it’s time for “Body Of Work”, the first single off the upcoming album, a rocking, dynamic track.

We have featured here some time ago the debut EP from STARDUST, a pure AOR band from Hungary. They keep working on new songs and a possible full length album soon. Meanwhile listen to the soaring “Shout it Out!”. Love these guys.

Californian ’80s hard rockers SHARK ISLAND are back, with a new album yo be released soon. The first single is, surprisingly, a cover of Depeche Mode’s hit “Policy of Truth”, re-worked in a hard rocking / riff driven mode by the Sharks. Great song, great version.

In Summer 2017, Testament’s Steve Di Giorgio teamed up with Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex Judas Priest), Chris Caffery (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, ex Savatage) and Mark Zonder, for a new musical project, SPIRITS OF FIRE. This metal supergroup will release their self-titled debut album, on February 22, 2019, via Frontiers Music. They have unleashed the first single, “Stand and Fight“, a heavy groovy rocker.

Swedish Melodic Rockers TASTE are on a roll; after six months the release of their very good album, they are releasing a new song titled ‘Don’t Wait for Salvation’, showcasing a different side from the band, adding acoustics into the mix. Very nice tune.

BRIAN MAY, lead guitarist for the band Queen, but also astrophysicist, released a new single called “New Horizons (Ultima Thule Mix)”. Commissioned by NASA, the anthemic offering celebrates the latest mission by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft, which just set the record for the most distant spacecraft flyby ever. “New Horizons” is May’s first solo song in more than two decades.
