PENDRAGON – Fallen Dreams And Angels & All The Loose Ends (2022)
Long lasting UK melodic progsters PENDRAGON will be releasing a new CD this week. “Fallen Dreams And Angels & All The Loose Ends” compiles the band’s rare song & EP’s from the ’80s & ’90s, terrific songs with that era sound & style somewhere between Marillion, Asia and Saga.
Some of these songs have turned up in various guises over the years as bonus tracks here and there but not as a nice consolidated ‘all the loose ends’ type of CD release, and now completely remastered.
What we have here is the complete mini-albums / EP’s ‘Red Shoes (1987)’, ‘Saved By You’ (1991), ‘Fallen Dreams And Angels’ (1994) and ‘As Good As Gold’ (1996)’.
Quite a few of you won’t have known some of these songs even existed [unless you’re one of the old grizzled Pendragon campaigners from the late 80s / 90s era]. Songs like ‘Bird Of Paradise’ and ‘Third World In The UK’ will be an utter mystery to some of you… are all are darn good proggy tunes with an accessible melodic delivery.
Melodic Rock & lite prog AOR fans will love these tracks, most of then ‘song format’ tracks with pristine production sound.
PENDRAGON exists since 1978 and the had the ability to morph their sound according to times. The material into “Fallen Dreams And Angels & All The Loose Ends” covers their most commercial, melodic era, and all songs are a pure delight for the casual ’80s music listener.
Tracks 1 to 4 are from the EP ‘Saved By You (1991)’, tracks 5 to 7 from ‘Red Shoes (1987)’ EP for years impossible to find, tracks 8 to 11 are the complete EP ‘Fallen Dreams And Angels’ (1994), while tracks 12 to 15 come from ‘As Good As Gold’ (1996)’ mini-CD.
You can’t go wrong here: stupendous musicality / performances, very good songwriting and a sound / production with that late ’80s / early ’90s aesthetic.
