RONI LEE – A Lifetime (2022)
RONI LEE is an L.A. rock scene pioneer, a well-respected working guitarist/musician for decades – a notable accomplishment for any woman in the music industry. She co-wrote The Runaways hit ‘I Wanna Go Where The Boys Are’, and was the guitarist in Venus And The Razorblades, a ’70s Californian indie band whose music has been discovered by a new generation and is currently experiencing a renaissance in Europe.
As one of a handful of female guitarists/performers in the Seventies, Roni set the stage for LA girl bands such as the Go Gos, The Bangles, Vixen, and so many more. She has shared the stage with friends Joan Jett and Cherie Currie (Runaways), Van Halen, The Ramones, Blondie, etc.
Now Roni “A Lifetime“, an album collection that spans 4+ decades of recording, performing and writing music, including new songs and some recorded at her beginnings. Roni’s voice resembles a young Ann Wilson, and musically isn’t far from Heart: timeless classic rock.
For Roni Lee, music has always been the perfect vessel of true, unadulterated expression. With a life journal full of memories and experiences that span a highly-decorated 40-year career in music, Lee is a prime example of a self made woman in rock and roll who has managed to transcend boundaries.
Roni began her career without hesitation, as she relocated to Hollywood, CA at the age of 17. It wasn’t long before she snapped up a position as lead guitarist in the rock band Venus and the Razorblades, a project produced by Kim Fowley.
Los Angeles was the epicenter of rock and roll, and Roni Lee found herself sharing stages with the likes of Van Halen, the Ramones, Steppenwolf, The Motels, and more in the late ’70s.
1977 saw Lee and Fowley co-write the Runaways’ track “I Want to Be Where the Boys Are”. The song appeared on the band’s “Live in Japan” album, which went on to reach certified Gold.
Over the years, she has been signed to labels Island Records, L.A., Mushroom Records, and Canada (Heart Label), has been nominated 5 years in a row for the Best San Diego Rock Band at the San Diego Music Awards, and not to mention — has rocked the stage with countless talented musicians. 0dayrox. Additionally, she has been featured on the sci-fi TV show Defiance as a vocalist.
Currently touring the U.S. and running her own label, Play Like a Girl Records, Roni Lee shows little signs of slowing down.
