THE JACK – Cheat To Win ’85 [remastered +2] (2023)
Alongside the Megattack albums featured here yesterday, Metallic Blue Records is also releasing for the first time on CD the recordings of other Utah / Megattack-related band: THE JACK.
THE JACK featured the lead vocals of Rick “The Jack” Jackson, future Megattack front man. However the style / sound of THE JACK was much more melodic, bluesy hard rocking, with a first half of the ’80s AOR touch.
”Cheat To Win” is the second album by the band released in 1985 before Rick “The Jack” joined Megattack. The album contains 7 tracks, including a cover of BADFINGER’s “Day After Day”, plus 2 bonus tracks, digitally remastered. Like the first album (Rock Elite) also reissued by Metallic Blue Records, this is a fun poppy and catchy melodic hard rock collection of songs.
In 1984, The Jack was the top act in Salt Lake City, Utah, and one of the first to play this type of rock in the area. Rick Jackson had a unique, raspy voice that would appeal to fans of Paul Shortino. After the release of this album, Rick moved to L.A. and began working with Phil Sandoval, the original guitarist for ARMORED SAINT, after which the band broke up. Later, he joined Megattack for a more metallic sound.
