RUFUS FONTAIN (feat. Jeff LaBar) – S/T [Eonian Records] (2023)
RUFUS FONTAIN started many years ago with two friends, singer Ronnie Honeycutt and guitarist Tim Lewis, just hanging out, having a few drinks, and recording demos of their own songs. Over the years, RUFUS FONTAIN has had several lineups, including friends Cinderella guitarist Jeff LaBar and bassist Hayden James.
Still writing and recording, the band played any show they could get. Audiences were entertained, and some industry attention was received. They even played at the Rocklahoma festival.
2023 Eonian Records contacted RUFUS FONTAIN about releasing all the songs the band recorded. These tracks have all been sitting on hard drives for years, and now are seeing the light of day with their self-titled CD “Rufus Fontain“.
This is traditional Hard Rock with a bluesy foundation, meaty riff-driven classic stuff with backend boogie grooves, and lots of kick akin Dirty Looks, Jackyl, AC/DC, etc.
At one point, RUFUS FONTAIN were asked to do a version of AC/DC’s classic “Whole Lotta Rosie” for a tribute album. The band just cranked it out with Jeff LaBar on guitar, and sent it on its way. The had no great expectations their version would be chosen for the compilation release, figuring no one would ever hear it.
But the track not only appeared on the CD but also was played on many radio shows including Europe and Asia. It’s included on this album as well.
While this album is a hodgepodge of those various recording efforts from many years ago – some done in pro studios, others at home studios, the quality is very good. Straight rockers, bluesy riff driven and with tons of attitude.
