PAGE 99 – 99.3 FM (2024)
PAGE 99, the project of Berklee graduate musician John Nixon aims to keep alive the great West Coast AOR musical smooth sound from the 1970s and ’80s, and following on from their critically acclaimed two previous works, PAGE 99’s third album is being released today entitled “99.3 FM“.
The title is a declaration of intention alone: FM style soft, melodic music with a pristine AOR sound. On this third effort PAGE 99 explore the growing sounds of early ’80s style music production: multi-track, layered instrumentation and elaborated harmonies.
This is no imitation, but rather an album produced in every way in the model of the great early ’80s music studios, skilled session musicians and producers. Special guests include Bill Champlin, Tamara Champlin, Peter Friestedt, Paul Pesco, and many more.
Among the track list we find versions of songs from Ned Doheny, Jack Wagner, and Mr. Mister, as well as Lee Ritner songs written by Eric Tagg, a Little River Band cover (written by Peter Beckett), and more.
It’s a pleasure to hear music produced in 2024 with the highest degrees of quality, creativity, and musicianship. All of that shines through in each and every song here; so much heart, intelligence, and emotive impact keeps you coming back for more. I tell my friends that Page99 is music for people who are/were musicians or who appreciate the artform at a very level.
Kudos to Page 99 for keeping this genre alive, especially for those who long for a return to the glory days of popular music that had integrity and substance.
