BITTER SUITE – Crime Of Love [recorded 1991-1992] (2005)

As requested, here’s “Crime Of Love“, the one and only album from Canadian combo BITTER SUITE, a project put together in the early Nineties by songwriter / musician David J Petovar. Most the music was recorded 1991-1992, quality Melodic Rock unfortunately shelved back in the day.
In 2004, with the genre’s resurgence, Petovar made a deal with Metal Mayhem Music to finally release “Crime Of Love”. Some tracks were finished for the occasion, the rest are the original takes.
Spearheaded by Petovar, the roster included George Christon of Kick Axe and Don Wilk of White Wolf sharing the lead vocals with him. The project’s supporting cast included female singers Carry Jay and Kelly Brock, vocalist Mick Dalla, Stephen ‘Steve’ Crane, guitarist Greg Filan, bass player Pete Olster (Young Gun), drummers Craig Brooks (Touch, American Tears) and Randy Black (Annihilator), and more.
This is timeless Melodic Hard Rock with AOR waves. The title track and “Give Me The Night” served up a pounding backbeat and axe solos that reminisced to pointy guitarred, twin axe attacks. “Hard To Say It’s Over” meanwhile is a keyboard-laden midtempo AORish number that showcased the writing versatility.

The songs featuring Kick Axe’s George Christon are our favorites, but also the strong 3 cuts performed by Don Wilk. David J. Petovar does lead vocals on five, and while he isn’t the best shouter in the world, the catchy songs work.
The album also features two women on individual tracks. Carrie Jay, often compared to as a cross between Darby Mills and Chrissie Steele on “Forever Tonight,” and Kelly Brock on “Bad Boys,” which in fact is a demo from 1991.

While production standard varies, overall “Crime Of Love” is a very enjoyable disc from the Canadian Melodic Rock / AOR factory. It’s classic late ’80s / early ’90s finger snappin’ stuff, you can’t go wrong here.
