Considered a classic among Canadian AOR aficionados, the 1989’s self-titled debut album from REGATTA is now being reissued after decades out of print, fully remastered by bass player Matthew Gerrard from original masters and released via The Art Of Loud Recordings.
With an AOR / Melodic Rock style & sound similar to Boulevard blended with rock&pop infectious melodies, “Regatta” is an album with all the magic from the ’80s Canadian scene: elegant, pristine, with crystal clear production. Listening “Regatta” today it seems recorded yesterday regarding the quality and timeless nature of the music, yet it sounds with that late ’80s atmosphere almost impossible to replicate.
Released by major label RCA, “Regatta” sold well and worked fine on the radio, however as happened with many bands at the time, they were dropped next year. Songs like opener ‘Wherever You Run’, the awesome ‘This Is Love’, ‘I Will Be There’, ‘Matter of Time’, etc, are pure gold for ’80s AOR lovers.
